Stephen Colbert is out to steal my thunder as Greatest Living American.  So I'm actively going to try and Foil Him.  I may not have his legions of people, but this is about SEO, and his followers don't have my friends Google Rank.

I may not be qualified to be the Greatest… but I am a Great Living American, and that is not that far off of Greatest Living American.   Even if I can be in the top 10 links, I think that should be worth something.

If you create a Link with the Text "Greatest Living American" (GLA)  That points to this article, and you end up in the top five Google searches for GLA, I'll give you a copy of your choice of Office 2007, 2008, or Vista Ultimate.  Contest is Open ended.  To win you must be somewhere it is legal to ship the product.  If Lots of people Win, Great.  I'll reward as many people as I need.  If you don't end up in the top slots on Google you can still win.  On May 30th I'll take who ever has put up a link that shows up in Technorati and randomly pick 1 of those for their choice of the above software.

This is the Site that started all this. What I can't figure out is how as time has gone on, how I have lost rank to pages that aren't trying to win.    Like this one from Pop Matters.  This whole experience has been unreal.  I received death threats in forums, had a DoS attack on my site, all in all I did not expect that this would be as "exciting" as it has been.  I expected to be crushed in a matter of hours, or that the Google Bomb Squad would Kick in, and because of the massive amount of Link spam that Google would un-index the page that the Colbert camp was trying to have be on top. 

Because the Colbert Nation page has no mention of the "Greatest Living American" I didn't think it could be the landing point for the term.  At this point I do mildly suspect I'm being conspired against.  But As I'm such an underdog, being as my following it 6 orders of magnitude smaller than C-trains, I think that is just paranoia on my part.

At this moment in time if you search Google with out the quotes I'm not on the first 3 pages, which is very odd.  If you search with quotes I'm barely on the first page.  Fun while it lasted but likely the race will end for me unless I can get some celebrity endorsements in the next few hours.
