George W has some weird views about religion, but Huckabee has some outdated views on religion.
In August of 1998, Huckabee was one of 131 signatories to a full page USA Today Ad which declared: “I affirm the statement on the family issued by the 1998 Southern Baptist Convention.” What was in the family statement from the SBC? “A wife is to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ.”
I think knowing when you go in to a relationship who where’s the Pants can be important, but that doesn’t have to be the man, and certainly in today’s day an age it doesn’t have to be sworn before God.
When people struggled to survive the hardships of the Prarie Life there was a good reason to put the fear of God in families that divorce was not an option. Other wise you’d like have had men deciding they couldn’t cut it and that they should just up and leave the family. At the same time the preaching that women should submit it had men providing. These days your wife is unlikely to need protection from a bear, so your manliness has a lot less weight when you bring it to the table in the compromising of a marriage.
While Huckabee’s stance would be an outrage in Berkley, CA there are a lot of Baptist’s across the US that both men and women would be glad that Huckabee supports traditional values.
