Christopher Rouse: The musical genius

If you have an ear for music then you must be choosy about music composers. One of the most eminent music composers in the USA is Christopher Rouse. I bet you must know him if you have an ear for music. Rouse was born in Baltimore in February, 1949. This talented composer graduated in 1971 from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music where his study companion was Richard Hoffmann. Later in his career, Rouse studied at Cornell University.  

One has to admit that his efforts were noticed by the music industry. In 1972, Christopher Rouse got BMI Student Composer Awards, which was a token of recognition from BMI Foundation. He donned the hat of teacher thereafter. In Michigan University he taught for 3 years. His stint with the Eastman School of Music was much longer and there he worked for 21 years since 1981. This brilliant composer made his way to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in the year 2002. He is presently employed with the Julliard School. His 3 children are Alexandra, Jillian and Adrian.

 You should know that there are certain classes of composers. Christopher Rouse falls under the neo-romantic group of music composers. In several of his compositions the trend to blend diatonicism with modern music has been observed and this is his trademark characteristic. Rouse has often received praise for his depth in areas like percussion. He has an extensive body of music compositions to his credit. Do you have any idea about his most famous solo compositions? Well, they are Little Gorgon, Valentine, Morpheus and Ricordanza. They are composed on different musical instruments like piano, flute and cello. His orchestras are equally popular among the lovers of music. Some of them are Phaethon, Iscariot, Rapture, Envoi, The Nevill Feast and Gorgon. One of his orchestras named ‘Symphony’ received much critical acclaim and it fetched him the coveted Kennedy Center Friedheim Award. Christopher Rouse also did some compositions where orchestra was blended with voice. Noteworthy examples of this genre are Kabir Padavali and Karolju.
