Year 2008’s best supporting actress

24th February 2008 saw the hosting of the Oscar ceremony for this year in Los Angeles, California. The nominees in the category of best supporting actresses were Ruby Dee of the movie “American Gangster”, Cate Blanchett for her astounding performance in “I’m Not There”, Saoirse Ronan of the movie “Atonement”, Tilda Swinton for her performance in “Michael Clayton” and Amy Ryan in the movie “Gone Baby Gone”.   Cate Blanchett bagged the 80th academy award for the best supporting actress for her amazing performance in the film “I’m Not There”. In this movie Cate plays the role of one of the 6 versions of Bob Dylan. This year Cate has also been nominated for the best supporting actress in the Golden Globe award. I have always believed that Cate is a fascinating and an immensely talented actress. This award just drives the nail in my presumption. Like each and every fan of Cate I am delighted.  Cate, apart from being nominated in the category of best supporting actress for her movie “I’m Not There”, has also been nominated in Golden Globe award’s category for the best actress for her movie Elizabeth: The Golden Age. For the award in Oscars Cate needed to compete with the best. Let me tell you why I think so? Who were the other nominees?  The nominees in this category for best supporting actress were Julia Roberts for her movie Charlie Wilson’s war. Julia who had won the Best Actress award in both the Oscars and the Golden Globe award in the year 2001 for her movie Erin Brockovich had been nominated this year for the best supporting actress. In 1991 she won the Golden Globe award for the movie Pretty Woman and in 1990 for Steel Magnolias.  Saroirse Ronan has also been nominated this year for the best supporting actress for her performance in the movie Atonement in the Golden Globe award. Amy Ryan who has performed in War of the Worlds and Capote has also found her way in the category of the best supporting actress in the Golden Globe award this year for her movie Gone Baby Gone. This year Tilda Swinton also got nominated as the best supporting actress in the Golden Globe award for her performance in the movie Michael Clayton.Among all these talented actresses Cate emerged as a winner. She must be delighted! And as her fan so am I. Well done Cate.
