How To Avoid Spammers from CraigsList Personals

When ever I run a personals ad on Craig’s List I make sure to run two.  If you have played much on Craigslist you know that running a personal ad usually results in getting a lot of “view my webcam” and find a sex partner now spam back.  Typically you get what looks like a legitimate response and then the follow up has mined out your name, your e-mail address and if it is in your signature your phone number.

To Avoid a lot of this running two ads will help you catch the duplicate e-mails that were quickly written from a form letter.

Here is an example of two I got.  One Ad was my “real ad” and the other basically said I was looking for a petite Asian to clean my house, written to discourage any real responses.

Hi, I read your ad at Craigslist. Lets see. I love art, painting drawing, photography. I design tattoos as a hobby but I could never actually do the needle work. I love horror movies, much really prefer watching them at home rather than in a theatre because I always end up sitting infront of the person who gets a call and talks. Im currently studying culinary management, and I have an AOS in pastry arts. Cooking is really my life and I love every aspect of the industry. My goal is to be a food and Bev manager for a luxury hotel. Im really laid back, and love doing really random things like going to the science museum to play virtual volleyball, but i think they might have gotten rid of it, which would be a real bummer.

I hope to hear from you soon.

This looks real yes? Someone you’d consider writing back to.  Lies, All Lies.  Cause Shar wrote almost the same thing back.

Hi, I read your ad at Craigslist. I am just a normal, regular woman. I am emotionally and financially stable and I do not need medication to keep me that way. I stay busy visiting friends, going to the movies, theater, running here and there. The usual activities. I love to travel and I enjoy weekend get aways, especially when I can find someone to get away with me. If you can make me laugh I am yours. I am looking for intimacy in terms of emotional closeness, someone to talk to and do activities with, cuddling, kisses, etc. Like you, I am not looking for friends with benefits. Either you are a friend or a "romantic" interest. If you are my friend I view you as I do my women friends and assure you those relationships do not include benefits. Not to brag, but I have been told I have beautiful eyes.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Shar

There are other phrases that can alert you to the professional responder spammers. that appear in both of these.

  • If you can make me laugh I am yours.
  • prefer watching them at home rather than in a theatre because I always end up sitting infront of the person who gets a call and talks
  • Like you, I am not looking for friends with benefits.

I suspect they have a script that just pastes these together to make responses but it is possible that after typing a few hundred of these a week that they just get practiced at churning them out.

If you have seen the spam that comes to your e-mail about “make money on craigslist” that’s what these people do.  The bounty on an Adult friend finder type site is ofter over $100 so if you can pick up a sucker a day you can live alright on making posts.
