Google Brings Cloud Computing To Porn

Previously Google AppEngine had a terms of use that prevented gambling and pornography from being hosted on the service.  Even at the free tier.  That’s right the cheapest porn hosting online is now Google.  Confirmed by Google employees on the GAE Forum the change comes as Google AppEngine is leaving beta and entering production.  Along with the change in usage policy the exit from beta means a new pricing model.

According to the new terms:

Use of the Service is subject to this Acceptable Use Policy.

Capitalized terms have the meaning stated in the applicable agreement between Customer and Google.

Customer agrees not to, and not to allow third parties (including End Users) to use the Service:

  1. to violate, or encourage the violation of, the legal rights of others (for example, this may include allowing End Users to infringe or misappropriate the intellectual property rights of others in violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act);
  2. to engage in, promote or encourage illegal activity
  3. for any unlawful, invasive, infringing, defamatory or fraudulent purpose (for example, this may include phishing, creating a pyramid scheme or mirroring a website);
  4. to intentionally distribute viruses, worms, Trojan horses, corrupted files, hoaxes, or other items of a destructive or deceptive nature;
  5. to interfere with the use of the Services, or the equipment used to provide the Service, by customers, authorized resellers, or other authorized users;
  6. to disable, interfere with or circumvent any aspect of the Service;
  7. to generate, distribute, publish or facilitate unsolicited mass email, promotions, advertisings or other solicitations (“spam”); or
  8. to use the Service, or any interfaces provided with the Service, to access any other Google product or service in a manner that violates the terms of service of such other Google product or service.

Don’t want to move all of your Adult hosting off of what ever platform you were running on?  Check out www.cdninabox.com which can help you speed up your site using the Google AppEngine infrastructure.  image

There are also a number of CMS’s which have been ported to run on Google AppEngine, but if you want just drop dead simple, AppEngine has static file hosting which I suspect may make Google Regret the move.  With a free pricing Tier that will hold 150 megs of images, html, or anything else "Porn Farmers" who set up small web sites with 200 images or so that simply redirect traffic to pay sites or serve ads for other sites (Live Jasmine springs to mind).

Time will tell if Google can embrace the adult space with out being over run with the sprawl of border line legal, and highly spammy free loaders that have plagued other hosting services that lowered their moral standards for the lure of easy money.
