Michelle Duggar suffered a miscarriage Thursday, according to US Weekly.
Michelle and husband Jim Bob Duggar were planning to welcome their 20th child in April. The couple discovered the miscarriage at a regular checkup this week.
“Earlier today at a routine doctor’s appointment Michelle and I received the sad news that we lost the baby,” Jim Bob told US. “Michelle is resting comfortably at home with the support of the entire family. We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers, but as for privacy during this difficult time.”
The couple is the subject of the popular show 19 Kids and Counting, which follows the Duggar’s life in Tontitown, Ark. The series has inspired debate from its beginning stemming for the Duggar’s large family and their religious belief, called Quiverfull, which says that God should be the only one to determine how many children a couple has. In the Duggar’s case that number so far is 19.
They are the parents of Joshua, 23- with two children of his own- twins Jane and John-David, 21; Jill, 20; Jessa, 19; Jinger, 17; Joseph, 16; Josiah, 15; Joy-Anna, 14; twins Jedidiah and Jeremiah, 12; Jason, 11; James, 10; Justin, 8; Jackson, 7; Johanna, 6; Jennifer, 4; Jordyn, 3; and Josie, almost 2.
The couple took some heat from the public for their decision to continue having children after Michelle, 45 had a difficult time with her last pregnancy. After a series of complications, Josie was born at 25 weeks in December 2009.
