Planning a game may not be part of your job as a developer, but understanding the parts of the whole is. Being a team member you have to have an appreciation for how the game works as a whole even if not all of the parts, are your responsibility. As a producer however you will be responsible for planning how many resources from each group you will need, and when in the development cycle you will need them.
Pacing is another important part of games (to watch the video click here), movies, books, and even presentation. You need to keep the audience interested with out pushing too much to fast. You need to create contrast to increase the level of excitement and intensity (this is also true of great sex). Pacing is universal from games to race tracks, or games with race tracks.
