World’s Biggest Rodeo Hits Buzz

When most Americans think "rodeo," they imagine some steer wrangling, some bull riding, and a few corn dogs out in the stands. When residents of Houston think "rodeo," they see something different.

In March, the southwestern city will fling open the corral gates of the world's largest cowboy competition. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo hosts the globe's biggest livestock event, performances from some of the most popular names in country music, a city-wide parade, a massive barbeque contest, and 20 days of nearly 2 million attendees. That's rodeo, Texas style.

Yesterday, organizers announced the event's musical schedule will include Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Miley Cyrus. Demand for "houston rodeo" promptly galloped into our top movers. Buzz for "2008 houston rodeo lineup" spiked. And interest in "houston rodeo tickets" poured in from as far away as New Jersey, land of the urban cowboy.

Houston's wasn't the only rodeo to ride herd in Search yesterday. The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo benefited from the buzz with a 366% bounce. We feel kind of badly for the February event, though. It attracts over one million people. It's louder, prouder, and more colossal than most rodeos on Earth. But it's destined to be forever eclipsed by Houston. Sometimes, it's tough being Texan.
