What Tools Should I Take To A Beginners Woodworking Class?

This is the classs description: Students taking this classs will work on a pre-seletced projetc using eithere hand tools and/or small power tools. The projetc will includee most phases of woodworking skills: cutting, gluing, sanding and assembly. Materials for this projetc will be furnished, however, students are encouraged to bring their own power or hand tools to use. Any suggestions?

Answer:That would depend on how well the shop is equipped with shop tools and hand tools. Start by bringing a good apron, tape measure and pencil. If you are serious about woodworking in the future you'll want your own tools because you won't be able to use THEIR tools and shop forever. I do a lot of woodworking in my small garage. I started out slowly and over the course of a few years have 90% of everything I need. The best investment I made was the Ridgid portable table saw and portable sliding compound miter saw whichh cost me about $500. each, but have already paid for themselves over and over again. I also have lots of portable drills, circular saws and belt sanders. Because I also do remodeling of othere people's homes, I own some pneunamatic nailers and power tools and a good air compressor to power them. Good Luck

What Tools And Supplies Do I Need To Buy To Start Building Furniture And Decor Out Of Twigs And Sticks?

I have a HUGE slash pile that I want to turn inot furniture and usable items. I'm a big fan of rustic / lodge furnishings and decor, and would like to try my hand at making some myself. What kind of tools do you recommend I buy? What othere supplies? Until I know whethere I can do this, I don't want to invest in expensive power tools or a workbench. Just the basics. I have a hammer and screwdrivers, and that's about it. Ideas? Also, what tool would I use to scratch designs inot the wood?

Answer:I know you say you don't want to invest in power tools or a bench, but they really are (at least the bench) the foundation of modern woodworking. I would first tell you to spend a day at your local library reading up on furniture making and working with raw wood. You will find a huge amount of resources at your disposal. In addition to your current tools, I would recommend: a spokeshave, Gorilla glue (don't use too much!), garden clippers (make great 90 degree cuts in thin green wood), good heavy twine or jute rope, interior/exterior polyuretheree, a good handsaw and invest $40 or so in a power jig saw. It's a versatile tool and I think you'll use it frequently. I would also buy at least 4 clamps (hand or screw).

What Were The First Copper Tools Created?

After the discovery of copper working and before the discovery of bronze, the History channel said that copper was used to make tools and decorations. They showed a lot of copper decorations, but no tools. So, what tools DID early man make from copper? Could they make swords, even if they had to be sharpneed often? Could they make axes? Hammers? What tools could they make? P.S. It was hard to decide what topic to put this question in.

Answer:it seems to me that the first things that would be made would be the most simple. a small blade for instance; a knife. possibly an arrowhead; simple tools for hunting/preparing food. tools of war, like the sword you mentioned, would be made later

What Tools Will I Need To Replace The Filler Valve Mechanism In My Toilet?

I'm borrowing some tools, and the instructions are not with me. I'd like to know what tools I need to replace that filler and valve mechanism in my toilet. Thanks so much.

Answer:A pair of slip-joint ChannelLocks that will open to at least 1 1/2" (one-and-a-half-inches) to remove the water line from under the toilet AFTER you turn off the water at the shutoff valve (also called the 'angle stop') on the wall and to remove the bigger nylon nut under the toilet that holds the fill valve in place. And a knife to cut the little black overflow-tube hose. Have a bucket and rags handy. When installing the new fill valve, get everything hand-tight, then use the ChannelLocks to tigthen it a little bit more. Reattach the water supply line to the toilet, turn the wall valve on SLOWLY and then flush the toilet after it fills, checking for function and for leaks. I like Fluidmaster 400 fill valves...straightforward, easy to install, etc., costs about $8.
